5 Activities To Try This October

WRITTEN BY: JESSIE KOZAK

October is the perfect month to get creative with sensory play and science fun! Here are five activities that will spark curiosity, engage fine motor skills, and bring a little Halloween magic into your home 🎃

1. Googly Eye Sensory Bin

Add a bit of silly spookiness with a googly eye sensory bin. Turn your water an eerie shade of green with a few drops of food coloring, drop in some Pippa Cubes to make it Glo, and scatter googly eyes all around! Then, grab fine motor tools and challenge your little ones to scoop out the googly eyes and glo-ing Cubes 👀

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Green food coloring

  • Googly eyes

  • Pippa Cubes

  • Pick-Up Pals

2. Black Bat Sensory Bin

Ready for a bat-tastic rescue? This sensory bin features a base of bright orange rice with bowtie pasta painted black to resemble bats. Using Tiny Tongs, kids can go on a mission to save the bats by plucking them out of the rice. They’ll also have a blast scooping and pouring the rice through funnels and containers.

Want to dye your own rice? It’s easy! Just toss some rice into a ziplock bag with a few drops of food coloring, seal it up, and shake until the rice is fully coated. Spread it out on a lined baking sheet to dry, and voilà—your vibrant, spooky rice is ready for play 🦇

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Orange rice

  • Bowtie pasta (painted black)

  • Tiny tongs

  • Scoops and bowls

3. Balloon Science Experiment

For a little science magic, try this simple experiment that will wow kids of all ages! Fill a balloon with baking soda, then stretch it over the top of a bottle filled with vinegar and a few Party Pal Cubes. When the baking soda drops into the vinegar, it causes a fizzy reaction that inflates the balloon! This is a fun way to explore chemical reactions with a spooky glowing twist 🎈

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Balloon

  • Baking soda

  • Vinegar

  • Party Pal Cubes

  • Small bottle (like a water bottle)

4. Apple Pie Sensory Bin

Whip up some pretend apple pies with Sammy, Pippa, and Julia! Just toss in your Cubes, grab pie tins, foam crusts, and mixing tools, and let the baking magic begin! It’s easy as pie to set up, and an apple-solute blast to explore 🍎

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Pie tins

  • Foam crusts

  • Pippa, Alex, and Julia Cubes (green, red, orange)

  • Scoops, spoons, and whisks

5. Witches Brew Sensory Bin

Time to stir up some spooky fun with a witch's brew! Drop in your favorite Cubes to make it Glo, toss in googly eyes, plastic spiders, squishy frogs, and any other creepy "ingredients" you can find. Then add it all to a sensory bin or cauldron and stir to create a creepy-crawly soup! This witch’s brew will captivate little ones as they mix and stir their spooky potion, perfect for imaginative play ⚡️

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Glo Pals Light-Up Cubes (pick your favorite colors!)

  • Googly eyes

  • Plastic spiders or worms

  • Ladles, cups, and spoons

These fun-filled activities are sure to keep your little ones entertained while helping them build important skills like fine motor control, hand-eye coordination, and imaginative thinking. Whether they’re making pretend pies, rescuing bats, or crafting potions, October is bound to be full of fun 🤩
