If you’re looking for a magical holiday activity that combines creativity, sensory play, and a little glow, this Very Merry Glo Up Water Play craft is perfect! Kids will love creating their own light-up holiday characters that sparkle to life when they hit the water.
This activity uses Glo Pals Light-Up Cubes, colored foam paper, and a few fun craft accessories. Once the creations are complete, pop them into water and watch the magic unfold — they glow like holiday lights!
What You’ll Need
• Printable templates (includes a wreath, reindeer, and Christmas tree)
• Glo Pals Light-Up Cubes
• Colored foam paper (A4 for the wreath, A5 for the reindeer and Christmas tree)
• Scissors
• Utility knife
• Pencil
• Hot glue gun
• Fun embellishments (mini ribbons, pompoms, bells, and stickers)
• A water play area (bathtub, sensory bin, or large bowl)
Let’s Get Crafting!
1. Print & Cut Your Templates
You can start by printing the downloadable templates. You’ll find three designs: a Christmas wreath, a reindeer, and a Christmas tree. Carefully cut each one out.
2. Trace on Foam Paper
Place your templates on the foam sheets and trace around them with a pencil.
• Use an A4 sheet for the wreath.
• Use A5 sheets for the reindeer and Christmas tree.
3. Cut & Add Openings
Cut out your shapes, then use a utility knife to make small square openings (as shown on the template). These will be where your Glo Pal Light-Up Cubes fit through.
4. Decorate & Personalize
Here’s where the fun really begins! Add mini ribbons to the wreath, googly eyes to your reindeer, and colorful pom poms to the Christmas tree. Kids can get as creative as they want — there’s no wrong way to decorate!
5. Add the Glow!
Once your designs are decorated, gently pop a Glo Pal cube into each square opening. Don’t forget a red one for Rudolph’s nose!
6. Time for Water Play
Set up your water station — a bathtub, large bowl, or sensory bin works great. Add your light-up foam creations, and watch them float and glow beautifully on the water’s surface. Press them down to see the cubes fully light up, then watch as they bob and twinkle like floating Christmas lights!
Holiday Magic in Every Splash!
This activity is simple, festive, and full of sensory fun. It’s perfect for holiday playdates or cozy weekend afternoons. Plus, cleanup is a breeze — just dry off the cubes and foam shapes, and you can reuse them again and again.
Bring some extra sparkle to your season with this glowing holiday craft — because everything is a little merrier when it lights up!
